Much Colder Heading Into Next Year
Saturday Morning Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Skies will slowly move to mostly sunny into the afternoon Saturday with highs struggling to get out of the upper 40’s. The air will moderate some for Tomorrow but a cold front will make a dive into the area late New Year’s Eve. A few spotty areas of drizzle mixed with flurries will be possible late New Year’s Eve night into early New Year’s Day. No problems are expected as moisture will be limited.
TODAY:
Clouds in the morning will slowly give way to partly sunny skies by late morning and mostly sunny skies in the mid afternoon. Highs in the upper 40’s. Light southwest winds around 5 mph.
THE WEEKEND:
Tonight will be mostly clear in the lower 30’s and Sunday will be a little warmer by afternoon with partly sunny skies and highs around 50.
Our next cold front will arrive late tomorrow night bringing a slight chance of showers or flurries late. Lows in the upper 20’s. You’ll want a coat if heading out to the New Years celebrations tomorrow night as it will be getting quite cold.
Turning very cold for the first week of 2024!
NEXT WEEK:
A cold front will move through early on New Year’s Day making for a cold start to the new year. Highs on Monday will only reach the low 40s and mid to upper 40s are expected on Tuesday. We will stay in the 40s on Wednesday but an approaching storm system will bring our next chance for some shower activity as well. There is a system on Monday that will pass just to our south but might increase the clouds a bit on New Year’s Day. Mostly sunny skies should return on Tuesday before the clouds build back in for Wednesday. The winds will come out of the northwest to kick off the week behind the front. Overnight lows will be an issue, especially on Tuesday morning when low 20s will look to return to the region. The next chance for showers for most of us will return on Wednesday.
FINAL THOUGHT:
Some of us saw our first flurries of the season in West Tennessee on Friday but it wasn’t much and didn’t cause any major travel issues across the region. Some light flurries or cold rain could linger overnight but we are looking at a dry weekend to wrap up 2023 and kick off the new year. We are expecting a cold start to the new year as well behind a front coming late on New Year’s Eve.
