New alert service available for residents in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – The City of Jackson has announced the launch of a new text alert service.

The goal of this service is to provide better communication of what’s happening in the city.

“We are increasing and enhancing the way we communicate with our citizens,” said Jackson Mayor Scott Conger.

Residents can opt-in to these text alerts to see temporary road closures, news, and other community events.

“Text alerts from things that are happening in the city, things such as road closures so you can be prepared on your commute in or commute home from work,” Conger said.

The Ready 311 and AtlasOne apps provide residents with non-emergency updates in the area, but this is different.

For those who don’t have a smartphone, you can receive these text message alerts right to your cell phone.

“We have an email system and we have social media but that’s not always, you don’t always have access to that immediately. And so everyone has access to a cell phone and so it gives them an opportunity to get those updates and information in a more accessible manner,” Conger said.

Mayor Conger shared why this service is useful.

“Communication is important. Being transparent about what we are doing in a timely manner is important, and so we want to eliminate surprises as much as possible, especially on commute into work or that commute home,” Conger said.

To sign up for these updates, just fill out a form online and you can choose which alerts to receive.
