JPD investigating two shootings that occurred on Sunday

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson Police Department is investigating two shootings that took place over the weekend.

We were informed by a WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News tipster of a shooting that took place on Gillman Lane around 12:50 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, we discovered Emergency Medical Services and the Jackson Police Department on the scene.

JPD was also directing traffic at the scene.

Crime scene tape was also marked from the car wash on Campbell Street to Gillman Lane.

Bystanders were also observing from Campbell Street at the Dollar General as well as a car wash.

When JPD arrived at the scene, they found a young man lying on the ground.

According to information released from JPD, the victim died due to their injury. The family of the victim was also present on the scene at the time.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Later that evening around 8 p.m., we were notified by a tipster of a large EMS and police presence at 504 Daugherty Street, also known as the East Pointe Apartment complex.

Upon arrival, we saw JPD searching the grounds where the incident occurred with flashlights.

Shell casings, evidence markers, and tape were surrounding a staircase of one of the apartment buildings.

Bystanders who lived in the complex were also present at the time.

Officers on the scene told us that they arrived to find one victim who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was immediately transported from the scene to a Memphis hospital via helicopter. 

They did not name the victim.
