Mollie Christine Burnett Bird
Mollie Christine Burnett Bird, 87, a current resident of Kirby Pines, Memphis passed away on Friday, January 5, at Methodist Hospice. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Velma Burnett, her husband William Trump Bird Jr., and her son Jonathan (Martha). Mollie is survived by her son Christopher William Bird (Helen), daughter Cynthia Bird Shaw, and cherished grandchildren Lilian, Christopher, and Gloria Bird, Winston and Patton Shaw all of Memphis, and Will Bird of Colorado.
Mollie’s life journey took her from Westchester County, New York to Montgomery, Alabama, and eventually back to Jackson, where she graduated from Jackson Central High School. Mollie furthered her education at Union University and Southern Methodist University, where she became a cherished member of Chi Omega.
In Dallas, she met her beloved husband, Bill, a fellow Jackson native. Their love story unfolded during a classic soda shop first date arranged by a mutual friend. The couple exchanged vows on the first day of Spring in 1958 and embarked on an adventure that led them to Port Arthur, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Clarksville, Tennessee.
Mollie and Bill were 35-year members of First Baptist Church, Clarksville where Mollie sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. After Bill’s passing, Mollie returned to her roots in Jackson, residing in the family home at Northacres until her later years when she moved to Kirby Pines in Memphis.
Mollie’s life was woven with threads of love, adventure, resilience and the color yellow, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her—-much like the lipstick marks she left on every glass and water bottle!
In loving memory, she leaves behind a legacy of family and Southern charm and hospitality.
A graveside service for Mrs. Mollie will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Ridgecrest Cemetery.
