Lenoir City to pay family of man killed by officer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Lenoir City has agreed to pay the family of a man killed by a police officer in March to stave off the threat of a lawsuit.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that the city reached the agreement with the family of Joshua William Grubb on Monday.

The family’s attorney, T. Scott Jones, says the city will pay out “six figures” but didn’t provide a specific amount.

Lenoir City Police Department officer Tyrel Lorenz, who is white, shot Grubb, who is also white, after responding to an intoxicated driver report. Grubb tried to drive away and Lorenz ended up on the bed of Grubb’s pickup truck. He told Grubb to stop before shooting at him nine times.

In April, a Loudon County grand jury ruled out any charges against Lorenz.
