Sen. Blackburn introduces the Fans First Act

JACKSON, Tenn. – US Sen. Marsha Blackburn started her 95-county tour last week in West Tennessee and is proposing harsher penalties for the illegal sale of tickets for concerts, sporting events, and other forms of live entertainment.

Senators from Texas, Minnesota, and other states along with Senator Blackburn introduced the Fans First Act.

This bill could help show flaws in the current live event ticketing system.

The bill would hold those accountable who engage in illegal ticket sales on resale sites and also increase transparency in ticket sales to protect fans and artists from getting scammed.

“Make certain that they are working with a reputable site that they have recourse in case it is not a valid ticket and they also want to look at the additional fees that are sometimes put on tickets that are posted online,” Blackburn said.

This bill would strengthen a bill previously signed into law in 2016 that prohibits ticket scalpers from using software systems to purchase high volumes of tickets.
