PRESS RELEASE FROM MADISON AREA DEMOCRATIC WOMEN:
Madison Area Democratic Women Accepting Applications for $2,500 Sue Shelton White Scholarship
JACKSON, TN, January 11, 2024 – Madison Area Democratic Women (MADW) announced it is accepting applications for its $2,500 scholarship in honor of Sue Shelton White, the West Tennessee suffragist and lawyer who played a pivotal role in winning the equal right to vote for women.
“MADW is committed to supporting women and girls in the surrounding region, and this is just one way that we work towards that mission—by helping women complete their college degrees,” said MADW President Liz Mayo. “We believe that education is a powerful tool for self and community advocacy.”
The theme of this year’s scholarship is Women in 2024: Voting, Winning and Leading, highlighting the opportunities this year for women to shape the future of their communities and their nation through their candidacies and their votes.
The Sue Shelton White Scholarship is open to non-traditional women students residing in Madison County and neighboring counties. The scholarship is designed to assist women who want to complete their education while also managing the demands of work and family.
Applications for the scholarship are available at the MADW website: www.madwomentn.org. Applications will be accepted through March 1, 2024. The scholarship winner will be announced in March in celebration of Women’s History Month.
