Stand-off ends with 2 murder suspects in custody

UPDATE (2/12/24): District Attorney speaks out after Gibson Co. property declared public nuisance

EARLIER STORY:

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Following a stand-off Wednesday, two men have been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a Reagan man.

Presley Road in Henderson County on January 8, 2024

On January 8, an investigation began after Matthew D. Jones, 21, of Reagan, was shot and killed in the 300 block of Presley Road in Henderson County, according to a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation news release.

The TBI says during the ensuing investigation, law enforcement found evidence that Lee A. Weatherford, 22, of Jackson, and D’Angelo D. Hart, 28, of Lexington, were responsible for Jones’ death.

A search warrant was executed Tuesday by investigators at a home on Reed Road in Lexington. However, only one person was arrested there, and it was for unrelated charges, the TBI says.

Wednesday, the search for the two suspects led investigators to a home in the 100 block of Eldad Road in Trenton.

This home, which was the same site of an officer-involved shooting in December, was then involved in an “hours-long standoff,” according to the TBI.

The TBI says that the standoff ended with Weatherford and Hart being taken into custody and each being booked into the Henderson County Jail.

The TBI says they are both facing charges of first-degree murder, felony first-degree murder in perpetration of theft, felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of property ($2,500-10,000).

Both are being held without bond.
