Milan dentist indicted on prescription drug fraud charges

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — A West Tennessee dentist is facing charges involving prescription drug fraud.

Identity theft, attempt to obtain drugs by fraud

Nathan Nash

Dr. Nathan Nash has his practice in Milan but was indicted in Madison County.

“It was an unusual situation. We did not expect this grand jury to indict,” said Mark Donahoe, Nash’s defense attorney.

A grand jury indicted Nash Monday on five counts of unlawfully obtaining or attempting to obtain a controlled substance.

The Milan dentist was booked into the Madison County jail Wednesday after prosecutors say he tried to get the controlled substances from Target and Walgreen’s pharmacies in north Jackson.

“At this point, we don’t even know specifically what items that they alleged that he did wrong or what was signed or what wasn’t signed or what was done,” Donahoe said. Screen Shot 2016-09-01 at 5.57.21 PM

There is also one count of identity theft pending against Nash. According to court documents, he allegedly used another dentist’s ID without his permission.

For now, Nash will continue working as a dentist as he awaits trial.

“There’s no change in his status at this point other than a grand jury saw fit to charge him with something,” Donahoe said. “And you have to remember, the grand jury only hears one side of the case. They only hear what the police say happened, and sometimes, as we’ve proven in the past, sometimes people get charged with offenses that they didn’t commit.”

Nash will make his first court appearance Tuesday is Madison County Circuit Court.
