Crockett Co. mom says she fought off stabbing suspect
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — A stabbing in Crockett County sent two people to the hospital Wednesday, according to Sheriff Troy Klyce.
A bandage covers stab wounds on Jamie Galinda’s arm. She said her ex-boyfriend got upset Wednesday morning, grabbed several kitchen knives, then stabbed her and her stepfather. “The whole kitchen’s destroyed — blood, nothing but blood,” Galinda said.
Deputies said the stabbing happened at a home on Highway 152 near Alamo.
Investigators arrested Jonathan Martinez, 36, on attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault charges.
Galinda said Martinez also threatened her 13-year-old daughter.
Galinda says she fought back until help arrived. “I pinned him down to the ground, took the knife from him and sat on him until the police got here,” she said.
Klyce confirmed both victims went to the hospital by ambulance. He said the stepfather suffered potentially life-threatening injuries to his arm but is stable. “It appears that alcohol was involved, and from that point it just escalated,” Klyce said.
Galinda said she plans to get a restraining order. “When he was walking out the back door in handcuffs, he told me he was sorry,” she said.
Galinda said Martinez was staying with them for several days and supposed to leave on Thursday. “I hope he rots in hell,” she said.
Investigators said no one else at the home was hurt.
Martinez is currently being held at the Crockett County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Thursday.
