South Side High School coach under investigation for inappropriate contact with student

JACKSON, Tenn. — Football practice did not stop Wednesday as the Jackson Police Department confirmed a criminal investigation into the head football coach at South Side High School.

Screen Shot 2016-09-07 at 10.53.50 PMSchool principal Anita Tucker confirmed to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that head coach Brian Moore will not lead the Hawks at Friday’s game, but instead another coach will take over for now.

According to Jackson police, their investigation into Moore includes accusations of inappropriate contact with a female student.

However, at this point Moore has not been charged with a crime.

Police spokesman Derrick Tisdale refused our request for an on-camera interview or to answer our questions.

The Jackson-Madison County School District is also staying very tight lipped. Repeated calls and messages were not returned. The district released a statement just before 5:30 p.m. saying in part:

“We take all allegations of faculty, staff, or student misconduct seriously. The district investigates all such complaints thoroughly and takes any action deemed necessary and appropriate for the situation.”

However, the district is not saying if Moore is still being paid or if he’s been suspended or fired.

Early Wednesday afternoon, the football team could be seen practicing as the Hawks prepare to take on the Bolivar Central Tigers on Friday.

One parent of a cheerleader, who did not want to talk on camera, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News it comes as a total shock to her and her kids who attend the school.

Other people declined to speak on the topic, saying it simply hits too close to home.
