For residents in need of a warm place to stay, the city of Jackson has two locations that can help.

First United Methodist church in downtown Jackson is offering space for women and children to stay warm.

The church is providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner these meals were donated by one local non profit.

“Salvation Army is providing them food and different meals which has been great,” member of First Methodist United church, Kathy Donhoe says.

They are asking that if anyone can to donate winter boots, small clothes, and children’s clothes.

“We don’t have many children’s clothing. Anything we have here will be split between various places,”Donhoe says.

Donated clothing will be taken to RIFA, The Dream Center, and The STAR Center.

Another concern they are having is making sure that every woman and child in need is taken care of.

“Our biggest problem is that we’re trying to get women with children in and we can’t seem to get them in and that’s a little heartbreaking,” Donhoe shares.

This resource for women and children is available until Monday January 22 and donations can all be dropped off to First United Methodist Church in downtown Jackson.

For men who need shelter from the very frigid conditions, the ‘Room in the Inn’ program will be moved from the Carl Perkins Civic Center to the T.R. White Sportsplex on Hays Avenue on Wednesday, January 17.
