Germantown begins own ambulance service
GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) – Germantown has launched its own ambulance service.
According to The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/13hc98X), the Shelby County suburban city is renting four ambulances until it can buy its own vehicles. The city has broken with countywide ambulance contractor Rural/Metro.
Germantown Fire Chief John Selberg said he was able to make the numbers work by shifting some firefighter positions to the emergency medical service.
There will be two ambulances staffed and two more on call.
Germantown becomes the second Memphis-area suburban city to operate its own ambulances. Bartlett began its own service in the 1970s.
