Homicide investigation underway in Weakley County
UPDATE (1/24/24): Friends organize ‘GoFundMe’ for Greenfield murder victim
GREENFIELD, Tenn. — A murder took place in Greenfield over the weekend.
Saturday, the Greenfield Police Department was informed by a witness of a stabbing that had taken place on 211 Poplar Street.
WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Kaitlin Nichelson spoke to Weakley County Sheriff Terry McDade, who is now in charge of the investigation.
“The person that found her drove to Greenfield PD and then he called the regular number,” McDade said.
McDade stated that law enforcement officials looked into the witness’s statement.
“Greenfield PD then went to the scene, confirmed what the witness had seen, and then they weren’t comfortable working it. It’s a small city police department, so they asked the sheriff’s office to work it,” McDade said.
The victim, Krista Davis, was found in the home, deceased with stab wounds.
William McNeal has been charged with first-degree murder of the deceased whom he allegedly lived with.
The neighbor stated that they did not know that they were having problems because the victim seemed so happy.
McDade dispelled some stories and speculations that were not released by him or anyone in his department.
“There wasn’t a 911 call. They drove to the Greenfield Police Department,” McDade said. “She was 100 percent not stabbed in the back of the head.”
McNeal is currently in custody at the Weakley County Detention Center in Dresden.
The investigation into this homicide is ongoing.
