Electric car ride-sharing program coming to Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Chattanooga will soon launch one of the first electric vehicle ride-sharing programs in the nation.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/2cZLXcC ) within the next few weeks, 20 Nissan Leafs will be stationed around the city and Collegedale for drivers to rent by the hour through a smartphone app.
Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority Executive Director Lisa Maragnano says the program will reduce air pollution and traffic congestion while offering a safe, environmentally friendly alternative to owning a car.
Renters will be able to recharge the all-electric vehicles at nearly 50 area charging stations.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is sponsoring the program, and GreenCommuter is equipping the vehicles, which can be rented for $9 an hour to members, who pay an initial registration fee and annual membership.
