Wienermobile makes first stop in Jackson, more to come
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is on the road again, and they are in Jackson for the next few days!
Their first meeting area was at University Parkway’s Kroger.
WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Kaitlin Nichelson spoke to Jimmy Creamer, AKA Jumbo Dog Jimmy, who stated that at 27-feet long, weighing 14,000, the Wienermobile brings everyone back to a kid-like stage.
“It’s super nostalgic for so many Americans. So it’s such an honor to be able to drive it and kind of rekindle that nostalgia for like the older generations and also create that nostalgia in the younger kids who aren’t too familiar with the Wienermobile,” Creamer said.
Creamer stated that when he graduated from college, he didn’t know what he would do.
Then, the opportunity to be a Hotdogger came open when they came to his school to recruit workers.
Creamer stated that was the best thing to happen to him.
“You get to travel for a living, make people smile, and just like, you know, basically live the dream. So that really motivated me to apply for the position. It’s pretty competitive, but we cut the mustard. It’s a great job and we relish it,” Creamer said.
We spoke to Ann Kerr, better known as Angus Ann, who stated that being on the road since 1936, the Wienermobile has covered many cities.
“It’s been cruising the hotdog highways. We have six Wienermobiles, so it’s a really special occasion when you do see one of them. So we are super excited to be out here,” Kerr said.
Kerr and Creamer are both Hotdoggers.
“So a Hotdogger is basically someone who drives the Wienermobile around the country. We’re acting as a PR firm on wheels. We’re bringing the Wienermobile, but we’re also pitching media, creating social media content, and kind of doing everything that’s involved with this job,” Kerr said.
Although it was a little rainy Thursday, Creamer said that it didn’t stop them.
“We like to say it’s always blue skies when you’re driving the Wienermobile. And, you know, although it’s raining, we know the real hot dog fans are going to come out, catch up with us. And, yeah, we’re happy to be here,” Creamer said.
