“Best Buddies” matched for a lifetime of friendship

MEDINA, Tenn. — It was a night that dozens of students will never forget, as they found a new friend.

The South Gibson High School Best Buddy Chapter held its annual match party, Monday evening.

The program offers one-on-one friendships for students with intellectual and development disabilities.

The president of the school’s chapter said it’s a program that brings everyone together and has a special place in all students’ hearts.  “Throughout the school you just see so much love and kindness by embracing their buddies,” said Hannah Bland, president of SGCHS Best Buddy Chapter.  “They’re not longer secluded at lunch or don’t have friends in the hallways or in class.”

Bland says the students truly cherish their new friendships and the moments they get to share together.

The popularity of the program has prompted six other schools in the area to start their own Best Buddy Programs.
