BBB warns of scammers posing as independent contractors
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Better Business Bureau wants to remind you to be aware of scammers who might be posing as independent contractors.
There was at least one report in the area of someone who was scammed out of at least $6,000 for plumbing repairs due to a leak after the winter storms.
The BBB reminds you to do your research, compare contractors, and call the BBB if you are at all skeptical.
“But when you come across those contractors that are on Facebook, on social media, like I said, just always ask them for a contractor number. If you are registered, you should have that as well as liability insurance and insurance in case anything were to go wrong with them on the job,” said Toddnetta Trice, the Public Relations & Communication Specialist for the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB also reminds you to read reviews and report to law enforcement and the BBB if you believe you’ve been scammed.
