Heavy Rain Saturday, Drier Weather Sunday
Forecast Ahead
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Rain showers will stick around off and on all day Saturday. A few weak storms will be possible Saturday afternoon and the rain will move out Saturday night. Temperatures will drop to start next week and an extended dry spell is coming. Catch the latest on the river water levels, your hour by hour breakdown on Saturday’s rain and more on the dry spell coming next week, all right here.
THE WEEKEND:
One more system will move through on Saturday before what appears to be a long dry spell starting on Sunday and lasting into next week. Saturday’s rain chance is at 100% and we are expecting the rain to clear out Saturday night. We should see cloudy skies on Saturday but a few breaks in the clouds will mix in late on Sunday, but do not expect to see much of the sun until Monday. Some weak storms may try to mix in with the heavy rain on Saturday afternoon but we are not expecting severe or strong storms. But some thunder and lightning will be possible as the front passes.
We might get a brief break in the rain on Saturday afternoon but more showers will linger into the evening hours. The rain towards the back half of the day will not be as heavy as the stuff coming through late in the morning and in the early afternoon hours. The rain will move out Saturday night.
Saturday highs will reach the upper 40s to near 50° but Sunday highs will only make it to the low to mid 40s. Saturday night lows will fall down to the upper 30s or around 40° and Sunday morning we could fall back down to the low to mid 30s, but should stay above freezing. The winds will move from the north to the northwest as the weekend goes on, keeping a brisk wind around most of the day on Saturday. Some areas in West Tennessee may end up picking up over another inch of rain before the system clears out. The places seeing the highest rain amounts will be the places hit with the weak storms or heaviest bands of rain early Saturday afternoon.
NEXT WEEK:
The rain showers will look to stay away all weekend long but temperatures will be a bit chilly as well as we start the new week. If the skies clear out Monday morning we could see some upper 20s showing up. But if the clouds still linger around in the morning, we may only see mid 30s across our area.
Highs on Monday will climb back up to around 50°. Monday night lows will again drop down to the mid 30s. The winds will come out of the west but transition to the southwest on Tuesday allowing temperatures to make it back up close to 60°. Another weak but dry front will pass Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Wednesday highs will drop back down to around 50°. Low to mid 50s will hang around for the rest of week with morning lows typically falling back down into the 30s each morning, but staying above freezing. The winds will have a westerly component to them most of next week. Rain showers will stay away from us all week long next week and that will look to continue into the following weekend as well.
FINAL THOUGHT:
All the snow melted early this week but was replaced by several rounds of rain showers. One last round of rain showers will come through on Saturday. A few storms will be possible but we are not expecting severe weather in West Tennessee. Some flooding issues may arise so we will be keeping a close eye on the rivers, creeks and streams later during the week. Many of the rivers and creeks are close to flood stage but none of them currently are forecast to reach even the minor flood stage. We will see how much rain will pick up on Saturday if that changes any of the river forecasts into next week.
