Dozens of horses, many in ‘critical condition,’ recovered in Henderson County
HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A local animal rescue group has made what they are calling their largest-ever rescue, involving around 30 horses.
Redemption Road Rescue has recovered the animals — including miniature horses and ponies — from a property in Reagan.
The Jackson-based rescue group primarily deals with horses and says it is their largest rescue since the group started in 2009.
Many of the horses are in critical condition, according to members with the group. The horses are described as severely malnourished, and many suffer from rain rot and fungal skin infections.
The animals will be in quarantine for 30 days.
They say the owner cooperated with the rescue and has surrendered the horses.
The horses are now at the rescue’s quarantine site and are getting medical treatment and being bathed in medicinal shampoos. They also are on a dietary regimen to help them recover from malnourishment.
