The suspect has been identified as Gary Hart, 53, of Henderson, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department.

Hart had been on the run since Sept. 13 when he allegedly opened fire after an argument with a family member in Henderson. A search for him that day put Chester County schools into lockdown.

Investigators have determined that Hart had been hiding in a vacant apartment on Gillman Lane in Jackson, according to the release.

When police responded around 8 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a break-in at the apartment, they say a man later identified as Hart fled in a pickup truck and led officers on a pursuit.

He then abandoned the truck at the intersection of North Royal Street and Henderson Road and fled into the woods, according to the release.

He later emerged from the woods on Ridgecrest Road and was taken into custody.

Police say the Ford F-150 Hart was driving was determined to be stolen from Memphis.

Jackson police say charges are forthcoming including criminal trespass, felony evading arrest, and theft of property over $10,000.

Hart is also wanted in Henderson on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a weapon.

Hart is set to be arraigned at 8 a.m. Thursday in Jackson City Court.
