Mostly Dry And Warmer Ahead
Monday Night Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
High pressure finally won the battle by Monday afternoon as the sun came out and stubborn clouds moved out of the area. We were also greeted with warmer temperatures by a few degrees along with much less winds this evening. A fast moving clipper system will drop down from Canada tomorrow with an associated cold front. This is not a bitter cold system but it will bring a colder night tomorrow night before temperatures quickly warm back up into late week. Some snow and rain will be nearby to our north but with dry air in place now for us, it will be mainly a cloud event late tomorrow evening into early Wednesday.
TONIGHT:
Partly cloudy and cold with lows around freezing. Winds will be mostly calm. Patchy frost into early morning.
TOMORROW:
Mostly sunny and a cold start but getting warmer in the afternoon with highs 58-60. Winds will be from the southwest 5-15 mph until late afternoon and turn from the northwest into the evening. A fast moving cold front will move through the area late in the day with clouds returning in the evening and overnight.
TUESDAY NIGHT:
Light snow and rain will be nearby to the north and while we could see a few flurries or sprinkles late tomorrow evening, moisture will be very limited as drier air has moved in. We can expect a cloudy sky to return in the late afternoon and evening tomorrow. Tuesday night looks mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a sprinkle or flurry, otherwise, turning colder again with lows around 33 and breezy northwest winds 5-10 mph.
WEDNESDAY:
It will be cooler behind the cold front through the day on Wednesday with partly cloudy skies and brisk northwest winds 5-15 mph but highs will still manage to get to around 49.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT:
Mostly clear and colder with lows around 30.
LATE WEEK WARMING TREND RETURNS:
The cooler weather from Tuesday evening’s front will only hang around through about Wednesday night. A southwesterly return flow will move in through the day on Thursday and after a cool start in the upper 30s Thursday morning, We’ll return to a warmer afternoon in the upper 50s. In addition, any clouds will move out and we’ll return to sunshine so Thursday is looking quite pleasant. Friday looks even better and although there will be rain making systems around us, It looks like we’ll stay dry into Friday as well. We’ll start of around 40 Friday under mostly sunny skies with a mostly sunny afternoon and highs around 60! Saturday will bring some late day clouds but otherwise partly sunny and highs around 60.
NEXT RAIN CHANCE:
Our next healthy rain chance looks to be on late Saturday night into Sunday as our next system moves through. An area of low pressure and a warm front will move into the area on Saturday night bringing rain chances back to the area by Late Saturday night into early Sunday. The low will move through in the day Sunday followed by the associated cold front which will cool us back down to the upper 40s for highs Sunday.
FINAL THOUGHT:
All the snow melted early last week but was replaced by several rounds of rain showers. Even with the rain well gone. Water will runoff will continue into the the streams, creeks, and rivers for a few days to come. Many of the rivers and creeks are close to flood stage but none of them currently are forecast to reach even the minor flood stage. As of Monday night the south Forked Deer at Jackson was falling in levels as well as the Hatchie. The Obion River was peaking out at 32 feet and forecast to fall in level some tonight and continue receding this week. The Tennessee River at Savannah was still rising and was forecast to peak out at around 368 feet by around Wednesday afternoon before receding into the weekend.
