Man arrested on drug charges after missing court appearance

WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — When Christopher Lee Payne, 27, failed to show up for an appearance in Weakley County Circuit Court, Tuesday, the judge issued a warrant for his arrest on a count of failure to appear.  He was scheduled to be arraignment on charges stemming from a September indictment on counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to resale, possession of methamphetamine, vandalism and possession of a prohibited weapon (a pair of brass knuckles).

According to deputies, when they went to Payne’s home at 250 Burns Road in Palmersville, a motion sensor buzzed and officers saw him run out the back door.  Investigators took him into custody in the woods behind the house.

A search of the home by deputies uncovered a small amount of methamphetamine and digital scales, according to deputies.  Officers said when they recovered Payne’s phone, which he tossed while running in the woods, they discovered text messages about buying and selling drugs.

Payne was charged with additional counts of evading arrest, possession of a meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
