JMCSS, Toyota work together on Malesus STEM Innovation Center
JACKSON, Tenn. – Toyota is partnering with the Jackson-Madison County School System to create the Malesus STEM Innovation Center.
It will follow a school-within-a-school model.
Students remain enrolled at their middle school where they will take classes in English Language Arts, social studies, and physical education.
They will then spend approximately half of their school day at the Malesus Center where they will take math, science, and elective classes.
Toyota wants to help not only with gainful education but eventually gainful employment to change lives in the community.
“The dream is that we can go to the school and see kids going through the program, and then in five or six years, see them actually come into our plant, and now they’re working on our equipment. And I can say, ‘Hey, I remember you when you were in school and you were doing that, and you were doing the robotics, and things of that nature. And now you’re functioning and you’re an asset to us as a team member,” said Todd Williams, the Plant Manager at Toyota, Tennessee.
Any student enrolled in a JMCSS middle school can apply to attend the Malesus STEM Innovation Center.
JMCSS is now accepting applications for current sixth and seventh grade students to attend classes starting August 2024.
