Local university to receive grant from the state to upgrade campus security
JACKSON, Tenn.–Students at one local university could be seeing some upgrades to security in the near future.
Union University received a $300,000 grant from the State of Tennessee called the Higher Education Safety Grant.
This grant encourages universities across the state to make security upgrades to their campus.
Union University plans to spend this money on a multitude of projects. One will be concrete barriers, in the form of planters, that will be strategically placed throughout the campus to limit vehicle access, electronic access control for academic buildings, enhanced security cameras, and the installation of a new security gate at the walker road entrance.
“Our goal is to continue to serve our students and the community who use this campus, to help provide the safest possible space that we can as they live here, learn here, and have fun here,” said Ken Litscher, Dean of Student Life and director of Resident Life.
The grant allows for the projects to be completed in 17 months.
