State agency offers reward in Weakley Co. arson investigation
WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — Local and state authorities are asking the public for help finding the person responsible for burning down a garage and vandalizing a car near Sharon.
Someone vandalized a car around 2 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 100 block of Boxx Road, according to a release from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department. The car had reportedly been beaten with a blunt object and spray painted with graffiti.
The homeowner then moved the car into a garage until he could contact his insurance company, according to the release.
Sunday evening, the resident went outside and saw that the garage was on fire. The Sharon Fire Department responded.
The garage was a total loss with the car inside, and the home also was damaged by the fire, according to the release.
Someone else who arrived at the home reportedly saw two people run away from the garage area and into the woods beside the home.
The man was inside the home with a small child at the time.
Weakley County Deputies, the Sharon Fire Department and State Bomb and Arson all are investigating.
State Bomb and Arson is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the fire, according to the release.
