WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
We are expecting another cool night across West Tennessee. Clear skies and calm winds could allow for some light patchy fog in some areas tomorrow morning. Highs tomorrow will be back up near 60° and we will be warmer on Friday & Saturday. Rain returns this weekend. RIVER UPDATE/FLOOD ADVISORY:
The Flood Advisory continues for the Tennessee River at Savannah including Pickwick Dam, Savannah, Saltillo, Perryville, Johnsonville...elevated river levels are forecast. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks. At 368.0 feet, House lots on the north end of Emerald Lane at Hooker`s Bend are beginning to flood. Water is backing into most sloughs. At 10:15 AM Wednesday the stage was 367.4 feet. The river is expected to fall to 362.6 feet by next Tuesday afternoon.TONIGHT:
Wednesday was the last day of January and we saw a normal end to the month. Highs made it up to around 50° but we will fall down to around 30° overnight into Thursday morning. The winds were light and came out of the northwest but will be calm tonight. We are not expecting any rain on Wednesday night and should see mostly clear skies in general. The calm winds and clear skies could lead to some localized areas of fog in the early morning hours on Thursday.
THURSDAY:
As we kick off February things are going to be quite nice in the weather department. We are going to have mostly sunny skies and a slight breeze out of the southwest. Highs will climb back above normal and reach the mid to upper 50s. We will remain dry again on Thursday. Thursday night lows will be mild and drop down to around 40°.
GROUND HOG’S DAY:
The warm up will continue on Friday as the winds will continue to come out of the south as an area of high pressure will be sitting along the gulf coast. Expect another day with mostly sunny skies. Highs will make it into the low to mid 60s. We are going to stay dry but the humidity will increase a bit helping to keep our overnight temperatures up as well. Friday night lows will drop to the low to mid 40s. Friday is also Groundhog’s Day, although meteorologists do not put a lot of faith in the rodent’s forecast, it is still a fun game to play, we will keep you posted as to what the fur-balls say later this week.
THE WEEKEND:
The next storm system will pass to the south of West Tennessee this weekend. The system will bring an increase in the clouds on Saturday and some rain chances will return on Saturday night. The mostly likely time for rain this weekend will be on Sunday but some of the showers may continue into Monday morning on the backside of the passing low pressure system. The most likely areas to pick up heavy rainfall will be along the Mississippi border but showers are forecast to impact most of West Tennessee.
Expect a cloudy day regardless Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be nice and reach the mid 60s again and only fall down to around 50° Sunday morning. Sunday highs will only reach the mid 50s due to the rain showers and cloud cover. Sunday night lows will fall down to the low 40s. The winds will start out of the southeast on Saturday but shift to the east on Sunday and back to the north on Monday. Chances for rain are 30% Saturday night, 80% on Sunday and 40% on Monday morning.
NEXT WEEK:
After a few showers early Monday morning, dry weather will be returning into the middle of the week. There could be more showers coming late in the week and into the following weekend but most of the week looks mild and dry. In general, highs will be in the mid 50s for the first half of the week with morning lows in the mid 30s. We are expecting mostly sunny skies during the middle of the week and the winds will come out of the north or northwest. We will keep an eye on the late week rain chances as the system gets closer to West Tennessee.
FINAL THOUGHT:
After a cold spell, and a wet spell earlier in January, the end of the month and the start of February appear to be quite nice. Highs will make it into the 60s this week but a couple cool mornings are likely as well. We still have 7 weeks of winter left. Many of the rivers and creeks are close to flood stage but none of them currently are forecast to reach even the minor flood stage. We will be keeping an eye on them though this week. The next round of rain is coming this weekend.
