PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SALVATION ARMY, JACKSON TN:

The Salvation Army Urges Community Support as Food Insecurity Continues to Plague Madison County

Jackson, TN – The Salvation Army of Jackson is issuing a plea to the community for urgent food donations as food insecurity remains a pressing issue in Madison County. Recent statistics reveal that approximately 24% of children in Madison County are food insecure, while 48% of households in Jackson struggle to make ends meet, living either below or just above the federal poverty level.

Emily Ricket of The Salvation Army in Jackson, emphasized the critical need for support, stating, “Over the past year, we have witnessed a significant increase in demand for food assistance. Families are grappling with rising costs, making it increasingly difficult to put food on the table. The Salvation Army of Jackson is committed to providing for those in need, but we need the community’s help to continue our mission.”

The Salvation Army of Jackson operates a food pantry open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday. Each week, between 45 and 60 families rely on the pantry’s provisions to alleviate hunger and food insecurity in their households.

The Salvation Army has identified the following items as most needed for their food pantry:

  • Canned meats/proteins
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned soups
  • Pasta and sauce
  • Granola and snack bars
  • Rice
