First-ever Entrepreneur Expo held in Humboldt
HUMBOLDT, Tenn.—Some business owners really put their heart and soul into their work.
One local owner shows her gratitude to those workers.
Famous Soul Food located on 1412 East Main Street hosted their first Entrepreneur Expo.
The idea of this event was to honor black businesses for Black History Month.
We spoke to the owner of Famous Soul Food, Mary Sample, who stated that the business was a success.
“We had about ten vendors in here and it has been a super great day of fellowship and refreshments. It has just been just awesome today and I am so proud of myself for stepping out,” Sample said.
Sample felt that it was so important to give these owners a space to shine.
“Sometimes they don’t get that opportunity by being a small business, so therefore in order for us to get together, we have to work together and I’ve always been trained up that when you try to be a team, there’s no I in team,” Sample said.
Vendors had items such as earrings, shirts, books and more to sell.
Participants were able to try on some of the items before they decided to purchase.
Other vendors featured were Christina Littlejohn’s booth to help with taxes, Vonda Peete with Lincoln Harris Burial Insurance, Kimberly Ivory with Public Service and many more.
“We had Pastor Lenorah Gilbert. She was our Mary Kay and also she’s the top Mary Kay. She’s driving a pink Cadillac,” Sample said.
Sample stated that she plans to grow this expo in the future years to come.
“I had to turn down about five vendors due to the capacity, but I definitely see myself doing more expos here,” Sample said.
Many participants even told Sample how beautiful the building was.
“I’m not bragging but the place is very clean. That’s all I heard everybody say, ‘this is so clean, it’s so clean, it’s so clean” and I just prefer to do it in my own business instead of going somewhere else,” Sample said.
Sample states that she expects to add more vendors at the next upcoming event. A date for that has not yet been scheduled.
