Nice Start to the Week, Wet Finish Expected
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Some cooler and dry air will move in tonight allowing temperatures to dip down near freezing, but most of the week looks warm for West Tennessee. The nice weather will continue on Tuesday and we will stay dry with plenty of sunshine, with highs reaching the upper 50s. The winds will shift to the south on Wednesday warming us back up to the 60s. Some rain showers return later this week and more appear to be on the way for the weekend. TONIGHT:
After a wet finish to the weekend it turned out to be a nice start to the work week. We saw plenty of sunshine on Monday and temperatures made it up to around 60°. Skies will remain mostly clear tonight and the winds will stay light out of the north. Monday night lows will be a bit cool as some dry air moves in and will dip down near freezing to kick off our Tuesday.
TUESDAY:
Mostly sunny skies will stick around for the day on Tuesday across the Mid South. Highs will be a little cooler due to a northerly breeze ushering in a cooler dry air mass behind the weekend’s rain system. Highs will make it up to the mid to upper 50s. Tuesday night will be a little cool again and once more drop down to around the freezing mark. Rain chance is 0% on Tuesday across West Tennessee.

WEDNESDAY:
We should crack the 60° mark on Wednesday and might hit that number for several days in a row. Highs will make it up to the low 60s and overnight lows will be warmer and only drop down to the mid 40s. The reason for the warm up will be the change in the winds from the north to the southeast. We will see a few more clouds on Wednesday than the beginning of the week but it should be another nice day. No rain is expected on Wednesday.

THURSDAY:
Shower chances will try to return Thursday night to the Mid South. We are expecting rain here in West Tennessee but not until late Thursday night. The rain will continue into Friday morning. The winds will stay out of the south on Thursday and that will allow high temperatures to again reach the low 60s. Thursday night lows will only fall down to the mid 50s under the rain showers. Expect a mostly cloudy day and a cloudy night. Rain chances Thursday night is around 50% as of now.

FRIDAY:
Rain showers will linger Friday morning before clearing out into the afternoon. We could hear a few rumbles of thunder Friday morning but the system likely will not be bringing big storms or severe weather to West Tennessee. Expect a widespread 1/4 to 1/2″ of rain from the late weekend system. Friday is going to be a warm and humid day with highs making it all the way up to the upper 60s. Friday night lows will also remain above normal and drop down to the low 50s. The winds will come out of the southwest all day Friday but transition back to the west for the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:
The weekend forecast appears to be challenging and will be very similar to what we saw the previous weekend. A low pressure system will track to the south of us along the gulf coast. Some of the northern rain bands associated with the system will move through West Tennessee. Like last weekend, the highest rain amounts will be in our southern counties and some of us near the Kentucky border could miss out on the weekend rain again.

The winds will come out of the west on Saturday and out of the northwest on Sunday. Expect a cloudy weekend for the most part. Rain showers could stick around for most of the weekend for some of us. Highs will reach the low 60s both afternoons and morning lows will hang around 50°. Chances for rain as of now is 40% for both days this weekend.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The drought situation continues to improve across West Tennessee and this week is going to bring some more relief. We have 2 different systems that will look to bring some rain our way late in the week and again over the weekend. As of now, the flooding concerns appear to be low as well as the risk for severe storms. Temperatures will look to stay above normal at least until Valentine’s day next week.
