Madison County Commissioners talk nonprofit funding, pay increase
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – Budget season is approaching for Madison County commissioners and new business is being decided on.
The Budget Committee of the Madison County Commissioner Office is composed of both commissioners and citizens who decide on the appropriate budget.
Wednesday morning they decided not to fund the Jackson Art Council, which is a nonprofit at this moment.
The commission was updated on the increase in mental evaluation costs for those who have been appointed by a judge to receive help with their mental health.
In September of 2026, during the commissioner’s election, there will be a pay increase.
“This committee has voted to increase the pay $1,000 a month, which will hopefully incite people who were maybe on the fence about running for office that are good quality people that just didn’t see it was worth their time. Maybe this helps them get over that hurdle and we can have some quality candidates,” said Madison County AJ Massey.
Current commissioners are making $500 once a month.
Mayor Massey is hoping that this brings in more qualified candidates.
