Community offered critical info at fire training event

JACKSON, Tenn. — A fire extinguisher training event took place at the South Jackson Community Center Tuesday.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m., attendees learned about different classifications of fires from the Jackson Fire Department.

They also learned about various fire extinguishers, when to use them, and when not to use them.

The acronym “PASS” was taught, which stands for: pull, aim, squeeze, sweep when using an extinguisher.

“Our main goal is to not have to use a fire extinguisher, for nobody to ever have to use a fire extinguisher, which brings up another point of smoke alarms,” said Melissa Nelson, Jackson Fire’s Community Risk Education Specialist.

Prevention is key, so make sure you have smoke alarms that are properly installed and regularly tested.
