‘Lambuth Boulevard’ song pays tribute to artist’s time at local university

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local alum returns to his alma mater with a song recounting his undergrad years.

Joe Eskridge attended Lambuth University, now known as the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus, in 1991.

After visiting Jackson some years ago, he drove down Lambuth Boulevard and was inspired,

His song “Lambuth Boulevard” became popular among other alumni who graduated from the university.

Eskridge shares that this song began with just the lyric “Water down whiskey,” which also is his favorite lyric.

His influences ranges from artists like Clint Black, Travis Tritt, and his dad,

Eskridge is from Halls in Lauderdale County, and shares this song helped him visit memory lane and write a letter to his younger self.

“We were just driving around sightseeing and stuff, and had driven down Lambuth Boulevard, of course it’s a flashback,” Eskridge said. “You drive down and there’s just streets signs that are popping up the thousand times that I passed them when I was in college, and it just triggered those memories, and so I went home and I wrote the song.”
