Space heater cause of morning fire in Hardin County

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — Officials determine a space heater was part of the cause of a Wednesday morning fire.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Hardin County Fire Department responded to a shop fire on Old Morris Chapel Road in the Crump community.

The department says the shop was not occupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters arrived to find the fire was contained to the upstairs bathroom.

The department shared that the cause of the fire was an electrical short at an electrical outlet where a space heater was plugged in.

The Hardin County Fire Department reminds that you should not leave space heaters unattended while turned on.

The department says if you need free smoke alarms, call the office at (731) 925-6178, or text your address to (731) 607-0346.
