Rain & Possible Wintry Mix/Snow Coming Late Friday, COLD Weekend Coming

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

The drought situation has improved for 6 weeks in a row across West Tennessee. It looks much better, but we have a little bit more work to do. The next shot for rain is coming in on Friday and a few afternoon storms are possible. A brief wintry mix could develop late in the day too. Catch the latest forecast details on Friday’s event, plus your full cool weekend forecast coming up here.

TONIGHT:

Thursday was a lot like Wednesday, but some clouds will move in late in the evening as the humidity will be increasing a bit due to some gulf moisture streaming on in. Early in the day we saw plenty of sunshine and the winds came out of the west. We are expecting calm winds tonight. Highs on Thursday reached the upper 60s and Thursday night lows will drop to the low to mid 40s. We are not expecting any rain on Thursday night but that will change on Friday.

FRIDAY:

The next system will be on the way on Friday. Friday will start out warm but cool down quickly towards the back half of the day after the cold front passes. We are going to see some rain and maybe a few storms transition to a cold rain and a brief wintry mix or light snow cannot be ruled out, it just doesn’t look like a sure thing as of now and it is going to be close.

We will keep an eye on that forecast as the week progresses. Highs on Friday will hit the low 60ss before falling down to around 30° by Saturday morning. The winds will shift from the west to the northeast as the day goes on. Chances for precipitation on Friday currently sit at 60%. Some showers may linger overnight into Saturday morning but we will likely be dry before the sun comes up Saturday.

THE WEEKEND:

We are looking at a cold start to the upcoming weekend with Saturday morning falling to around 30°. Highs on Saturday will only reach the low to mid 40s. We are expecting some clouds during the first half of the day on Saturday but they will clear into the afternoon making for a mostly sunny second half of the day on Saturday. The winds will come out of the northwest on Saturday.

The winds will shift to the west on Sunday and temperatures will be a little bit warmer reaching the low 50s on Sunday. Sunday morning though is going to be cold with morning lows likely dropping into the upper 20s. Mostly sunny skies are also expected on Sunday and Sunday night lows will drop down to around freezing again to kick off next week.

NEXT WEEK:

Monday highs are going to warm back up to the mid 50s and low 60s are expected on Tuesday. We could even see highs reaching the mid to upper 60s on Wednesday. The winds will come out of the south and southwest for the first half of the week. The week will start out with plenty of sunshine but the clouds will slowly build back in as the week progresses. There could be some late week showers returning but there is not a lot of confidence in the back half of the forecast yet. If we do see the showers coming back, the earliest day looks like it is going to be on Thursday.

FINAL THOUGHT:

Some heavy wet snow fell across West Tennessee Monday night but quickly melted during the day on Tuesday. Quiet and mild weather will stick around for the majority of the work week with the next system coming in on Friday. The weekend will be dry, but it appears like it is going to be a cold weekend as well. We will keep an eye on the forecast on Friday as well as there is a chance we could see more than rain depending on where the temperatures are sitting Friday night.
