Bethel honors Dennis Kiefer for work on university’s Alumni Garden

MCKENZIE, Tenn. — One university has a creative physical outlet to express gratitude to their alumni.

Bethel University’s Alumni Garden is located on their McKenzie campus.

It is a park-like setting with bricks, benches and plaques engraved with the names of Bethel alumni.

The pricing for engravings varies on the size.

Dennis Kiefer, a Bethel alumnus of the Class of 1967, came up with the idea.

The garden is a self-perpetuating way to raise funds for the college and carries on the history of Bethel.

It also presents the perfect opportunity to walk down memory lane — literally.

“Everybody comes at homecoming particularly,” said Dr. Bob Watkins, Bethel’s interim president. “They come in here to look around, and they’ll say ‘Well I remember him, I remember her,’ and it’s just a great place.”

Dr. Watkins awarded alumnus Dennis Kiefer an alumni appreciation award for his efforts. The two were classmates during their time as Bethel students.
