Local volunteers pair with Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Matthew victims
JACKSON, Tenn. — Members of the American Red Cross met Tuesday with local volunteers to talk about hurricane relief.
Those interested would join more than 1,800 representatives of the Red Cross outreach.
The volunteers would participate in two-week assignments on the East Coast benefiting victims of Hurricane Matthew.
“It really gets the expectation and it lets you know what you’re getting into ahead of time,” said Heather Carbajal, disaster program manager of the American Red Cross. “And then the training we’re having for the rest of the week will teach you how to do your role.”
More than 27,000 people across parts of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina are in need of shelter, food or some other form of help, according to the Red Cross.
