JMCSS Education vision committee meets
JACKSON, Tenn — Tuesday, the Madison County Education Vision Committee gathered to discuss further decisions made by the Jackson-Madison County School Board Monday night.
Tuesday’s meeting was all about bringing the board members and commissioners together to help with clarity and transparency.
Committee members reviewed Monday night’s school board meeting and heard the updates about the $22, 000 Rose Hill bleacher repair and the contractors in charge of keeping the grass cut.
Many commissioners at last months meeting said they were receiving complaints from residents about the grass not being cut.
Monday night, the school board heard from the contractors and agreed to revise the contract to maintain a nice appearance.
Members also discussed beginning the search for a new superintendent, a topic both the commissioners and school board members said must be done carefully.
“I think the key thing is what are we looking for in our next superintendent. What kind of talents, what kind of abilities, what kind of skills do we want that person, do we want to do a national search do we do a local search,” school board chair Bob Alvey said.
A thought county commissioners agree with.
“A hands on-person, an individual who understands the system, understands the needs of this district, understands the needs of the young people and has the need to support the teachers in a very positive way to work,” said Madison County Commissioner chair Gary Deaton.
Members also discussed “Vision 2020” and brainstormed about a long-term plan for the district.
Friday, the school board will begin its two day retreat where members will further discuss the superintendent search and other issues.
They will not be able to vote at the retreat.
Because of the November election, next month’s Education Vision Committee will be held in the county commissioners meeting room instead of the board of education office.
