‘The Steel Garden’ has a screening premiere in Brownsville for residents to enjoy

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.— Randall Kendrick, had only a camera and a plan to create a film that answered the question of who was the artist behind “The Mindfield.”

A local city celebrates one of their very own as part of a documentary.

Billy Tripp, an artist from Brownsville, shared a conversation with himself to the people of Brownsville and titled it “The Mindfield.”

“It’s really a conversation with myself and I really didn’t make it to talk to others about it. That was just the best place I had to make it because its so big it gets a lot of attention because of that but I rather people to like it than not like it,” Billy Tripp, artist from Brownsville says.

This massive piece of artwork along with other sculptures, books and paintings inspired Kendrick to create the documentary.

“He took what was round him. Scrap metal turned it into something incredible, something magnificent, something that you can’t find anywhere else. And in a place that you weren’t that likely to see, you wouldn’t be likely to see,” Randall Kendrick, filmmaker of “The Steel Garden” says.

The film, “The Steel Garden,” took more than a year to shoot and edit but Kendrick was determined to share this film with other Brownsville residents and then the world.

“It really means a lot to me that so much effort has gone into this Brownsville premiere, especially since I wanted this. I wanted to make sure that Brownsville got their own special screen before it was released out into the world,” Kendrick adds.

In the film, Tripp is seen working on the mind field and working with the Brownsville art council.

Two of Tripp’s favorite moments were being flustered while at work and the other is his wife sharing kind words.

“And she says ‘when it no longer becomes a success he will walk away from it.’ And that meant a lot to me cause that’s probably true and I probably will walk away from it because of physical decline,” Tripp adds.

Kendrick says the title of the movie was inspired by one of Billy Tripp’s books “The Steel Garden.”
