Forum addresses issues affecting the local African American community
JACKSON, Tenn. —One event brings light to issues impacting the local African American community.
The new Jackson Madison County Voters Council held its first annual State of Black Jacksonians event today.
The forum was held from 10:30 this morning until noon at the Jackson-Madison County Library.
During the event, the panel of guest speakers discussed several issues concerning the African American community, like health and voting rights, leadership, and the education system.
The forum was created to not only provide insight to local residents but also help to find ways to work towards positive changes.
“Too often we have organizations that come together and talk but they fail in leaving and doing something about issues they discuss. So the voters council certainly does not want to fall into that category,” said Willie Ozier, President, New Jackson Madison County Voter’s Council.
The event was free and open to the public.
