JFD hosts first ever open house
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Fire Department hosted its first ever open house, Tuesday.
The department opened the doors of Station 1, located at 440 East Chester Street, from 6-8 p.m.
The free event allowed community members to tour the station, meet firefighters and sign up to have smoke detectors install in their home for free by a firefighter.
The department said it was an effort for those who live in the area to get to know the men and women who work at the station and learn about fire safety and prevention.
“It’s important for people to know what kind of equipment we have and meet our firefighters,” said Jackson Fire Marshal Lamar Childress.
Fire station 7, on Windy City Road, will host the next open house on October 29.
