Law enforcement responds to gunfire call, suspect arrested
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Over the weekend, Crockett County law enforcement swiftly responded to reports of possible gunfire, resulting in an arrest after a coordinated effort.
“Around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, the Crockett County sheriff’s department dispatch center received a call of three male subjects and one female subject fighting in a yard with possible gunfire,” said Stephen Sutton, Crockett County Sheriffs Departments Public Information Officer.
Public Information Officer Stephen Sutton, stated that an active investigation began with multiple individuals detained on scene for questioning.
“Upon their initial investigation, it was determined that one male subject that fired at least one round, barricaded himself. Ran into the house behind me, barricaded himself in the 400 block of highway 189,” said Sutton.
Two juveniles were discovered to be in the home with the suspect.
“That was the top priority of the law enforcement officers. Upon their arrival, was to safely retrieve the two juveniles out of the home so they can begin negotiations with the suspect that was the alleged aggressor in this incident on Saturday afternoon,” said Sutton.
After the juveniles were safely removed, authorities could then focus on the suspect.
“An entry team was put together by the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department and Alamo Police Department, and the Maury City Police Department, they began verbal negotiations with the subject,” said Sutton.
The suspect, Roderick Williams, was discovered in a kitchen cabinet by authorities.
“A search warrant was obtained by the Maury city police department. Officers did execute that search warrant at this property where the weapon that was alleged to have been used in this incident was recovered along with other evidence that’s supported to be presented in a court of law,” said Sutton.
The shooting victim is expected to make a full recovery.
Sutton also stated that he commended the town of Maury.
For it to have been the weekend, he stated the quick response from a Maury police officer was excellent.
“The citizens in this town are united against crime and violence specifically gun violence and the incident here on Saturday afternoon, we had gun violence that was committed by a convicted felon which is very concerning,” said Sutton.
Williams is currently being held in the Crockett County jail.
