Keep My Hood Good hosts Sneaker Ball Fundraiser

JACKSON, Tenn — Members of Keep My Hood Good and their supporters gathered at Hub City Brewing for their inaugural Sneaker Ball event.

Each year, Keep My Hood Good has a fundraiser for members of the community to learn more about their organization.

“This is where we draw the majority of our resources that we utilize to support the students for the entire year. So, of course, if people are interested in donating they can visit ‘keep my hood good dot org’, there’s an option to donate to the community,” said Kelsea Merriweather, Vice Chair of Keep My Hood Good.

Guests had the option of entering their silent auction and could purchase items like an enterprise rental, a pressure cooker, and much more.

The money raised will allow Keep My Hood Good to continue helping under-privileged members of the Jackson community.

“So what we do is provide resources to expose children to opportunities that they might not have. So, our slogan is: ‘we’re here to break the generational cycles’, whether that is through tutoring, understanding our judicial system, just really giving the students the opportunity to see the city of Jackson in a different light outside of their normal community,” said Merriweather.

Children are learning a variety of skills, from life lessons to gardening.

Justice and Harmonii are members of Keep My Hood Good, and share with us their favorite part of the organization.

“We do fun activities. (butted) same and that they give us food in the afternoon and they do cool stuff,” said Justice and Harmonii.

This year’s fundraiser was different from the previous years because guests were able to tour the center.

“That we’re literally across the street from the center where the students learn. We want to encourage our patrons here to support us here at the fundraiser but we have tour going on right across the street. So you can see first hand exactly where the learning takes place so we’re excited about that,” said Merriweather.

If this organization interests you, here is a way to pitch in.

“We have an array of volunteer opportunities and would love to have more people to contribute to this amazing cause,” said Merriweather.

The organization’s fundraising goal for this evening was 10-thousand dollars.
