Lincoln Elementary students release balloons for National Red Ribbon Week

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local elementary school is doing its part to take a stand against drug and alcohol abuse as well as bullying and domestic violence.

Lincoln Elementary balloon releaseAs a part of National Red Ribbon week, students at Lincoln Elementary School released 400 balloons Friday — one for each student at the school.

Each balloon had a tag attached to it with the school’s address. They hope people will find them and send the tags back.

The goal of Red Ribbon Week is to educate children about illegal drugs.

“Just being aware of drugs and alcohol and not to bully other children or anyone around them in their community, just to be good citizens,” school counselor Annie Atkins said.

The national Red Ribbon Campaign has been educating children about staying away from drugs and alcohol since 1985.
