1/4 ton of marijuana seized from false wall in van on I-40

PRESS RELEASE FROM WEST TENNESSEE DRUG TASK FORCE:

1/4 TON OF MARIJUANA SEIZED FROM FALSE WALL IN VAN ON I-40

Late last night on 3/27/28, Agents with the 30th District criminal interdiction unit based out of Memphis conducted a traffic stop of a Mercedes sprinter van on I-40 in Haywood County.

After receiving an alert, Agents conducted a search. During the search Agents noticed an inconsistency in the wall between the front and rear of the van. Upon x-raying the wall, Agents could see packages of drugs inside and dismantled the wall finding nearly 1/4 ton (491 lbs.) of marijuana and THC edibles concealed inside.

Further investigation showed that the suspect had traveled from North Carolina to California and was on his way back to North Carolina when stopped by Agents.

One male is in custody awaiting bond on the felony charge of Delivery of Sch. VI.

The Office of the District Attorney General, 28th Judicial District, Frederick Agee is prosecuting this case.

The Task Force thanks Troopers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Deputies from Haywood Sheriff Billy Garrett, Jr. for their assistance in this case.

Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter said, “The professionalism, dedication, training and equipment of the West Tennessee Drug Task Force and our Agents are unmatched and I’m beyond proud to lead them.” He also added that In just a couple of weeks they’ve taken 3/4 of a ton of marijuana, 84 pounds of fentanyl, nearly 100 weapons, approximately 50 pounds of Psilocybin, a few pounds of meth, some LSD and over $200k in suspected drug proceeds off of Tennessee highways and out of the hands of West Tennessee dealers and they have no plans to ease off anytime soon.
