Lane College hosts public event blending artistry and programming
JACKSON, Tenn. — Lane College teamed up with sponsors to host an event open to the public that combines coding and painting.
Associate Professor of Art for Lane College, Louis Giberson, shared that this event was available to students and members of the community to learn about coding.
“This is open to anyone of all ages and you can come in at any skill level what were doing here is learning some of the basics control functions of the robots themselves,” said Giberson.
Students were able to race these robots and even learn basic coding functions.
“You can code a maze, so you take those same patterns that you created to follow the maze and then you apply that to a painting,” said Giberson.
A member of the community shared she didn’t have any previous knowledge of coding but still had fun.
“At first when I started to like actually do it it was kind of hard to adjust and I was more focused on like the ipad then the actual machine but as ive gotten use to it, it was kind of easy and simple easy it was fun. I was tryna attack my friend,” said Ajacia Persswood, a participant.
A student that is minoring in arts shares that this class is one of her favorites.
“Its absolutely great. It is kinda early in the morning but even with being early in the morning its very fun and it kinda starts my day,” said Natasha McKay, student at Lane College.
