Thursday, the West Carroll Special School District voted in a new director of schools.

“We came to a 4-2 vote with Mr. Jim Hughes from Gibson county who was the principal at Gibson County high School,” school board member Mike Foster said.

Prior to the vote, board members held final interviews with the top three candidates Dexter Williams, Jim Hughes and Shane Paskell.

“We had faith in all of them that they could run our system, there was no difference in their leadership roles as far as being superintendent,” Foster said.

But the final decision went with Hughes.

“We liked his wisdom in the leadership role in the community and bringing forth some of the things we were looking for in a superintendent,” Foster said.

Foster also gave advice to the Jackson-Madison County School Board as they start their search for their next leader.

“Hang with TSBA they will lead you in the right direction,” Foster said.

He credits them for their guidance.

“They get good applicants then they narrow it down, they do a lot of good things where you can narrow it down to 5 or 6 to however many it was,” Foster said.

The school board voted to extend the contract of the current director of schools Betty Wallace until Hughes is able to step into the position next summer.
