Annual Diwali celebration commemorates the Hindu culture
JACKSON,Tenn. — Hundreds filled the Star Center Saturday evening for the annual Diwali celebration in Jackson. The Jackson Association of Indians hosted Saturday’s event. City and county leaders presented a proclamation declaring today Diwali in Jackson.
A representative from the U.S. Postal Service unveiled the Diwali forever stamp to commemorate the Hindu festival of lights.
“This is an event that we celebrate to victory of good over evil,” Jackson Association of Indians member Prasann Jinturkar. “It’s a way of promoting Indian culture and values among the kids, among the communities. It’s a message of peace that we are spreading.”
Guest were also able to enjoy cultural dances and authentic Indian foods.
