Junior high All-Star athletes compete
CAROLL CO., Tenn. — The sidelines of West Carroll JR/SR High School were lined with the team colors of nearly 35 different schools Saturday afternoon for the 2nd Annual Centennial Bank Junior High All-Star Football Game.
Coaches say these guys are the best of the best in west Tennessee.
“We told them these are the kids that you’re going to see in high school. These are the kids you’re going to hear their names on Friday nights.” said Heath Moore, coach at Medina Middle School.
It was the north vs the south, with I-40 being the dividing line. The north side coach, Heath Moore from Medina Middle School, leading the south side, Jamey Fisher from Decatur County Middle School. The players from each particular school were chosen by their coaches, and these all-stars all had their reasons they loved the game of football.
“You know for some of these kids, this could be their way out.” said Dexter Williams, principal at West Carroll JR/SR High School. “This could be a way of providing bigger opportunities for them. So athletics is a big deal.”
Even though the all-star players may have looked small, it was clear they have dreams.
“Probably a professional football player or baseball player,” said Riley Ballard of Martin.
” I want to be a physical therapist or an NFL player,” said Landon Lambert of Medina.
” I might just join the military or something,” said Matt Tate from Gibson, “Be a farmer.”
Players say they enjoyed the final game of the season today which ended in a 17 to 6 victory for the north side.
