Scotts Hill football talks about victory over No. 1 team in state
SCOTTS HILL, Tenn. — After a great game on Friday, the Scotts Hill Lions earned some more love for their huge win over Adamsville when no one expected them to win but themselves.
“I didn’t know what to do when it happened because I knew we could do it,” middle linebacker Drake Thompson said. “When it actually happened, it was like, ‘did it actually happen?'”
“You go in and knock off the No. 1 team in the state on a team that was undefeated, it stirs a little excitement,” Coach Michael Stroup said.
Going into last Friday night’s game, almost everyone had them picked to lose against the undefeated Adamsville team, except the Lions and their fans.
“Me as a player, I love being the underdog,” Thompson said.
“People doubt you, so it makes it a lot easier to go in and play,” Coach Stroup said. “We talked about it all week about how nobody probably was going to give us a shot to win and all we had to count on was each other.”
After the huge win, they now have to focus on another big game this Friday. Regardless of who picks them to win or lose, the Lions know they have a chance to win every time they touch the field.
“I want to prove that it wasn’t just a fluke, make a point that we’re here to stay, we’re not just — we didn’t just get lucky in the first round,” Thompson said.\
“There’s a lot of buzz and a lot of people patting them on the back about what they accomplished on Friday night, but it’s not going to mean anything if we don’t finish the deal out this Friday,” Coach Stroup said.
